6 ways you can improve your lifestyle

Contrary to popular beliefs, you don’t have to change your lifestyle drastically overnight to achieve that feeling of success. Transforming your lifestyle is a process specific to each individual. Sure, you can speed up the process by implementing these tips and tricks in your day-to-day life. So here I listed ways in which you can learn about how to improve your life quality.

I bet you found yourself in a situation that no longer gives you self-esteem. Maybe you feel frustrated with your day-to-day job. Maybe you no longer feel enthusiastic about your potential and you feel trapped between creating a healthy, positive lifestyle, your workplace or your college, taking care of your family and having some time for yourself in the meantime.

I will be honest with you. Changing your lifestyle is not an easy process, but that doesn’t mean you can’t create your dream life. You need to believe in yourself and take a leap of faith. Here are some good habits that you can implement in your lifestyle to make the process easier and change your life forever. So how can you improve your life quality?

Meditation

Think about meditation like exercise for the mind. Like any other exercise, it takes practice. If you’ve never done it before you may think about it as a waste of time. It doesn’t have to be that way. Think about meditation as a way to take a break from a busy lifestyle.

As a beginner, it’s difficult to sit for hours with an empty mind. Let’s be honest here, it can be boring especially if you’ve never done it before. So here is another idea. Every morning, after you wake up, just sit there for 10 minutes and say positive affirmations like:

  • I believe in myself and I trust myself.
  • My thoughts are in control.
  • I am thankful for all that I have.
  • I love myself and I am surrounded by love.
  • Today is a good day.
  • I am creating the life that I want.

Minimalism

You may have heard of minimalism before, and maybe you already have an idea of it. Minimalism represents living with only the things that you need, but that doesn’t mean you have to dress in the same shirt every day or eat the same meal. It is a way to declutter your life and to find less meaning in the material stuff and this constant buy-all-you-can mindset of our society, focusing on the really important stuff like the relationship with your family, friends and yourself.

You can practice minimalism by clearing your closet, throwing away the stuff that you don’t use anymore, organize the belongings you have, and stop yourself from buying all that stuff that you don’t need. Unfortunately, this means fewer shopping sprees, but trust me, it is worth it.

Take your TV out of the room

Yes, you heard right. Taking your TV out of the room can really improve your memory, vision, and energy. A study from the University of Queensland (UQ) has found that watching TV can have serious health impacts in your future, including on your ability to live independently.

Now I know for a fact that binge-watching your favorite Netflix series in your spare time can be addictive. I’ve been there. You can’t wait to come back from a workday, sit on the couch, watch some shows and eat some unhealthy snacks.

After you make that change, you will find yourself more peaceful. You will get rid of the drama, controversy, excessive advertising, and you will have more time for yourself, family and friends.

Now I am not saying you should get rid of the TV forever unless you really want to. You should really minimize your time watching TV and moving it to another room can really help with that. What you can do is find something else that can occupy your time.

Find a hobby

In my first year of college, my life changed. I was no longer with my parents; I moved to another city, and I had to learn how to take care of myself. Also, my college was frustrating and tiring, and I was not happy with my situation.

So I began looking for some hobbies and I stumbled upon blogging. I have never thought writing would give me such relief. Finding a hobby can be a way of treating yourself. And you can say that you tried running, but you didn’t like it. That’s okay. There are many other hobbies and activities that can change your life forever. This is why finding a hobby is so much fun. You can try anything and everything until you find the one. There are many ways you can improve your life quality.

Here are some ideas you can try:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Reading
  • Creative writing
  • Volunteering
  • Cooking
  • Knitting
  • Photography
  • Pottery
  • Play an instrument

Get outside

One of the main reasons so many people spend most of their time outside is because it can increase your endorphin levels. That means going outside makes you happier. It’s been shown that going outside can decrease your heart rate, stress, and blood pressure.

Just take your pet out for a walk, have a picnic or go for a run. You can say that you don’t have the time to do that, but 10-20 minutes a day can be great for your health and overall happiness. Also, did you know that a 5-year-old study showed that older people are 35% less likely to die if they increase their happiness? That sounds amazing! Who wouldn’t want that?

In addition, going for a walk can really help your diet if you want to lose some weight.

Clean your workspace

If your job requires multitasking and dealing with projects all at once, it can really affect your efficiency if you don’t keep up a tidy desk. This can reflect on your work and affect your image as an employee.

It can be difficult to prioritize your work if you are not organized and some important stuff can be lost in that state of mind when you are tired and have a lot to do.

So what can you do?

You find a system that works for what you have to do. Start by grouping. You can make lists for what you have to keep, what you have to throw away and what you can donate in order to prioritize your projects. Also, get into the habit of cleaning your workspace every time after you finish your work. In that way, you keep a tidy desk and you won’t become frustrated over that ever again.
