If you want to stop procrastinating in your day-to-day life, you can start implementing this simple rule that can change your life forever.
As a college student myself, I woke up every single morning “not feeling like it”. It would take me forever to get out of bed, to get ready and to go to college where, of course, I would be late. The rest of the day I would complain and when I got home, I would complain some more because I was tired. Then I stumbled upon a book called “The 5-second rule” by Mel Robbins.
Mel divides her book into two parts. First, she explains the reason we are procrastinating in our day-to-day lives. After that, she writes about how we can overcome our bad habits.

So what is the 5-second rule?
Every time you know you have to do something and you don’t really want to do it just countdown from 5 to 1. It’s just simple like that and it can change your life forever.
Now I bet you are wondering how counting down from 5 to 1 can change my lifestyle. It sounds like bullshit, right? Well, it turns out that there is a five-second interval between the initial instinct to act and the moment the brain stops you, so in that interval you basically stop yourself from doing what you have to do.
What is it for?
The 5-second rule is just a ritual. Imagine yourself in the morning struggling to get out of bed. What can you do about it? Every night set your alarm with 30 seconds earlier than your usual routine. In that way, when you get up, you can start counting down from 5 to 1 and then just do it.
I have to admit, this isn’t an easy process but a rewarding one for sure. It may be hard in the beginning but the longer you do it the easier it will become. Also, it gives you that feeling of success, of overcoming your bad habits. Maybe you will be so proud of yourself that you will start implementing it not only in your morning routine but in every aspect of your life.
