The number one reason people meditate is to reduce stress.
Why is meditation so beneficial for your health? Let’s discuss this first: You know continuous stress is one of the most harmful things the body does to itself. It can increase anxiety, give you depression and make you have sleepless nights. It can even cause terrible medical problems like diabetes!
So what are the benefits of meditation? You put all your attention on a single thing; I like to focus on breathing. In and out, for 10 minutes straight. You may think this can’t help at all, but it’s an exercise for your brain to control your thoughts and attention.
Let’s be honest; you are not stressed about the situation you’re in, but because of the way you react to the situation. You have no control over your thoughts, and that is why you panic and become stressed.
Some people stress out two days before asking their crush out, others don’t even think about it. It is a matter of control, and with meditation, you can control your thoughts too.
It improves your self-image and gives you a positive outlook.
I meditate daily. From experience, I can tell you that every time I am done with my session, I feel good about myself. Possibly because it is a habit that I’m happy I’ve built, but this can be it. You know, after you clear your mind, and you space out from the world a little bit, you just feel energized and happier…I believe you will feel the same too after you try these meditation benefits for yourself!
It increases your attention span.
6 seconds! That is your normal attention span, it is the same for a golden fish too. I know, it sounds weird… I know what you’re thinking: “How did the smartest creature that ever walked the earth has the same attention span as my nephew’s pet?”. We stay on our phone so much, you watch TV, at the same time you are ironing or cleaning, you do a lot of multitasking, which we can’t do.
You force yourself to do a lot of things at once, and you pay attention to a single thing for just a few seconds. That is how we ended up having a short attention span. Training your mind every day to focus on just one thing for a long period of time. Eventually, it will help increase your attention span. You will remember more content, just by practicing meditation a few minutes every day!
Meditation helps with sleep problems!
I noticed I had some sleep problems a few months ago. It started with me just laying in bed, and waiting and waiting and… waiting some more. I just couldn’t fall asleep. After I started meditating I noticed that my problems just went away, little by little.
I realized that meditation helped me because I learned to silence my mind! Before I was just having all of these thoughts, about me, about the school, about work, scenarios on past events scenarios on future events that will never happen.
After I learned that my incompetence of making my mind stop was the problem to my sleep situation, I became more aware, and as a result, I sleep better, and you will too!
It helps you achieve what you want.
We covert this topic in the article about the Law of Attraction, but just let me explain how you can use meditation to manifest it. The Law functions on 3 steps: believing, visualization, and action. Through meditation, you can practice visualization of the things that you want to manifest, and become better at it. Successful people like Oprah or Steve Jobs said numerous times that if you can’t see it with your mind, you will not see it with your eyes.

You can do it anywhere.
That is one big trait of meditation, you literally can do it anywhere! On the bus, on the subway, on a chair, on the floor, in bed. Everywhere, you just need 2 couple of free minutes, and you are ready to go.
Maybe now you are interested in trying it out. but you don’t know where to start. There are a lot of ways and techniques to do it, but if you don’t want to go so deep into details, just do it like me!
I meditate on my bed or in a chair. It’s important to keep your back straight so you don’t fall asleep, trust me, it can happen. Next, you close your eyes and focus on your breathing.
You can focus on the physical effect that inhaling/exhaling has on your stomach, or you can focus on the pause between your breaths. The important thing is to not let your mind wander freely, which will happen A LOT at first.
When this happens, don’t feel bad, just redirect your focus on the breaths, and believe me, it will get better with time! You can meditate for as long as you want. First time try 5 minutes if it is easy for you, or you feel doing it more, or often, you can increase the time, or the number of sessions, it is really up to you!
