Quarantine Time: Make it fun

Quarantine Time: Make it fun

Coronavirus outbreak caught everyone off guard, and as a result, we are sentenced to self-isolating at least until this whole craziness goes away. Even though we can’t control too much of how the situation evolves we don’t need to despair and focus more on what can we do to do this as enjoyable and productive as possible in this quarantine time.

It is not the end!

I have been thinking about how bad this situation was, and get caught on a rail of thoughts leading to the conclusion that this is the worst… You can’t go out, can’t keep up with your daily routine and we’re forced to live for weeks inside the house with minimum contact with the outer world. But it doesn’t have to be all bad.

After a little bit of thinking, I arrived at the conclusion this may be a good thing. It leaves a lot of time to self-reflect, meditate and reconsider all of the things you took for granted. Plus you have plenty of time to do stuff you never really had the chance to do because of your busy schedule.

Therefore, I’m happy to give you guys some tips on how to make this isolation more enjoyable and productive, and what are the actions you shouldn’t miss on.

5 things to do while in Isolation!

Number 1: Workout

quarantine time

It’s not that fun that you cant keep up with your gym regimen or your running habit. You don’t want to lose all the progress you recorded in those workout hours, and actually, you don’t have to!

There are a ton of home workouts here on the internet for everybody with different levels of intensity, volume and difficulty. If you want to still be in shape search on youtube or browse the web for workouts that suit your needs. You will be surprised by how much you can do using no equipment, and just your bodyweight.

If you don’t like to search and build your program alone, just download an app on google play or Appstore. These apps allow you to keep track of your progress and offer many built programs.

The bottom line is, when it comes to workout, you can solve this problem pretty easily. And for those who wanted to start a training regime, here is your time to shine!

Number 2: read books

quarantine time reading

Maybe you’re a hardcore reader already, and books may have been your main source of entertainment during this quarantine time. If you never get into the habit of reading, well is not like you have so much stuff going on in your life… So you may very well begin now.

For readers, I would recommend changing the type of books you normally read. Don’t read only fiction or non-fiction books. Explore a little bit so you won’t get bored. If you read regularly chances are, you already know what you like. Therefore I’m not going any further in this matter with you.

But for those who want to start, now is the best timing. Read the books you already have in your house, or if you want to read the series you always wanted to explore. Search it on online platforms that allow you to read it online. Personally I read my books and listen to my audios on Scribd. The subscription is 10$ a month. So basically nothing compared with the unlimited access that offers you.

For beginners, I have the same advice as for the ones that already do read a lot. Experiment, see what you like, discover new genres and fell in love with reading! This is how you make sure this habit will stick!

Number 3: Play games!

Who said quarantine time has to be boring? There are so many games you can play, and so many different genres to try on. Even if you are a hardcore gamer, a newbie who wants to have some fun, or a retired one who rediscovers the pleasure of video-games, this is the best time to take advantage of.

I felt bored one day and thought about gaming for a while. I started with games I played as a child but never finished. The nostalgia and the fun were priceless. If you consider playing games, start right away!

Be careful not to overdo it! It is easy to get sucked in the game and play for hours and hours on end. This is not good for your circulation, back or eyes. Take frequent breaks. Let your body and mind take a rest from time to time.

Number 4: Build a new habit!

quarantine time.

In this quarantine time, you can take some action and build new habits. It is the perfect time to start. You always in the house, you have no distractions and is easy to keep track.

We already spoke about 2 habits you have to build: Reading and exercising. But there is a lot more to do… Cold showers, meditation, cooking, eating healthier. You can even break bad habits like smoking. The more creative you are the easier this will get. take advantage and build some badass habits that will kickstart your life!

Take it slowly but steady. take small steps and improve daily. This will be the formula for your success when building habits.

Number 5: Family time!

quarantine time family

Quarantine time, family time. This should be your motto for this time of the year. Profit from this experience and build closer relationships with your loved ones, or rebuild them. Solve your differences, and begin to understand the other person.

I moved out when started college and distanced myself from my family. We barely talked and saw them every other week on the weekend. So in a month, I would see them 4 days at best… Which wasn’t always the case.

That’s why I want to make myself stay with them more. Hagging around, talking, playing games. You will miss these days one day. You don’t want to have regret that you didn’t spend more time with the ones you love.

If you leave alone:

Don’t let that discourage you. Call them, chat online with friends and family. I know is hard to be alone, and if you are the outgoing and adventured type, who always wants to be outside this is torture. But bare with us, have some fun, play games, read books, build habits. You will go through it!

This quarantine time doesn’t have to be that bad. You can enjoy it if you think about it as a time you experience and try new things. Change your mindset and you will change your life. Stay safe, stay healthy, and together we will come through with it!

Habits Guide-The Top 5 healthy habits

Habits Guide-The Top 5 healthy habits

Habits are the pillars our life is built on. You may not be aware of it, but 80% of all the actions you do daily are actually habits. I’m sure you heard this term before, and you think that the habits are these great actions that only those who are worthy can do. But it is not like that at all, and even you can create some healthy habits that will change your life.

What are habits?

But first, let’s talk about habits, how they work, and how you can build good ones and break bad ones. Habits are actions that your brain is used to do. I’m sure that you do some of them already, like brushing your teeth in the morning, feed your pet at certain times, and even driving. These actions can take place without you being conscious about it. At the same time, habits will leave you with a certain feeling when you don’t do them. For example, if you don’t brush your teeth in the morning, you will feel dirty all day.

How to build them?

healthy habits building

Building a habit is easier said than done. Scientists say that it takes from 21 to 90 days to build a habit that sticks. Of course, the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Similarly, the easier to do it, the easier it is to maintain it. Let’s say you and your friend want to build the habit of going to the gym. You went to the gym in high school too, but your friend never stepped into a gym before. I think is obvious who will build it easier.

How to break a bad one?

breaking a bad habit for a healthy habits

There are two ways you can break a habit. You can either stop doing it or build another one.

Let’s say you want to quit smoking. You can just stop smoking. Although we know that this is hard, and it takes a lot of willpower.

On the other hand, you can analyze why you smoke. Maybe you only do it when you are with your friends who also smoke, maybe you do it when you’re stressed, or you smoke when you’re bored.

The thing is, if you know why you smoke, you have a chance to come with a plan. If you only smoke when you are stressed, do something else instead. Buy some stress relief toys, go to the gym and blow some steam, listen to calm music, or meditate. This way, your brain will think this is a new pattern, and the longer you do it, it will make it a habit, breaking the smoking one.

My top 5 Healthy Habits

Now we know what habits are, how they work, how to build them, and how to break them. Now let’s see my lift of healthy habits that will change your life.

Meditation

healthy habits meditation stance

Meditation is a great habit and is easy to build. I’m sure you heard many people talk about it, and you want to do it. We have a whole article covering this topic right here (Start Meditating!). The meditation calms your mind, makes you live more in the present, relief stress and it helps with anxiety. It is a great way to start your day, and the good part is that it only takes 10 minutes a day! So what are you waiting for?

Reading

healthy habits reading

If you already built this habit, good for you! If you didn’t, then you should. I was one of those kids who thought books are for losers. But the thing is after I read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki, my mindset shifts. Mr. Kiyosaki is not writing books about the benefit of reading; he writes about the benefits of having a financial education. And when I learned that I can acquire this type of knowledge by just reading books, a whole new world opened to me, and I’m sure it will open for you too.

Going to the gym

healthy habits going to the gym

You need to keep your body in shape. That is absolute. Maybe you are young and feel fit, maybe you don’t have health problems. Bu this is now, and no one can guarantee that you will feel the same in the future. Even one time per week can make a huge impact on your health! And as an addition to your health benefits, you will see a boost in your confidence, your stress levels will be lower, and you will be more secure. In conclusion, you’ll be a better human being!

Start cooking

healthy habits cooking

This is a fun habit that will benefit you in the long run. First, any adult should know how to cook more than just scrambled eggs. Second, you save a lot of money if you cook your food at home instead of buying it. Third, it’s a sexy skill to have, and if you already have a partner, you can surprise them from time to time with a delicious meal, which trust me, will be a gesture very well received! Fourth, is fun! Just start cooking!

Cold showers

healthy habits cold shower

I know this may be odd, but cold showers have a lot of benefits! It will boost your immune system. Therefore, you will get sick rarely. It will wake you up in the mornings when you feel sloppy. And in my opinion, the most important thing is that you will do something that is uncomfortable. Each time you do that, you will build your willpower. This willpower can break habits that are incredibly difficult, like binge eating. It’s hard at first, but you get used to it the often you do it. We even have an article on “How To Take Cold Showers“.

These are my top 5 healthy habits that will change your life for the better. You will not feel it instantly, but the more you do them, the happier you will be. A last piece of advice for you is to not build them all together because that would be impossible. Tackle them one at the time, wait to see how you feel, and build it until you will feel bad if you don’t do a certain task (that is how you know you built it).

In the end, I want to wish you good luck with your transformation! Take your time and don’t focus on the destination! That is just one part, while the journey is the whole process! Learn to love the process and you will be invincible!

The Benefits of Student Organizations

The Benefits of Student Organizations

So you just got out of high school and you go to college and there are a lot of student associations. Should you join them? Should you don’t care about them at all? Is it worth the time or are they just a loss? Well, here are some reasons why you should become a member of a student association.

It is a great way to make friends

Student Associations friends

The thing is, you may already have some friends with you at the university. But if you don’t follow the same courses or you are not even in similar majors, chances are you will not see your friends so much. They will hang out mostly with their colleagues while you will hang out with yours. Most of the time, student associations are unique to each university. For example, if you study engineering, your association may be called Engineering Student Association.

This means that in your university association will be students that study the same subject that you are, and the people are not only the ones from your class. In a group of people that big the diversity of personalities is enormous. Therefore, you will find people that have the same interest that you have, and maybe gain some incredible friends!

Tips & Tricks for your university game

student Associations tips and tricks

What is that supposed to mean? I already tell you that in a group so big, you will meet people that are older than you, and already pass the exams you will struggle with. Of course, you can ask them without being a member of their association what are the tips and tricks. However, you will have to find them, and they should be busy, so they can’t talk to you. And even if these requirements are fulfilled, you cannot be 100% sure they will talk to you. After all, they don’t know you.

It will be way easier for you to enter the association, meet the member at the meetings, and create some network. By socializing, you will get the people’s trust, and from that point, you will not have to worry about awkwardness.

Learn stuff from student associations that the college doesn’t teach you

student associations

The thing is, you will not learn something useful for your day-to-day life in college. Therefore, you will have to take your knowledge from somewhere else. Sure, you can ask your parents, but their knowledge is limited to their experience. In an association the diversity is big and the experience of all that people are vast. So by making some connections with your colleagues, you will learn a lot of things you didn’t even know about.

Not only that, but through the year, you will take part in a lot of projects. Projects that require work from you. Therefore, you will learn to organize events, talk to people, negotiate with firms. For that reason, you will get experience in some important tasks you will need to do eventually at your job. So don’t sit around and watch Netflix all day, when you have a big opportunity ahead.

You will have fun

student associations fun

Student associations are not like the fraternity you see in the movies. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t have fun at all. Sure, you will have to work a little bit, but this doesn’t mean that the fun is not there. You will organize parties and you will attend them. These are celebrations for completing a tough project, making a deal with a firm or simply celebrate the birth of your local group. Each way it is, you will have a blast, and that I can tell you for sure.

Take their advice

student associations

The thing is that your associates will have more life experience as you, and may have been through some ugly stuff that you can learn a lot from. So, as you become friends with other people try to listen to what they have to say. Some of them may talk about their work and how they got the job. Others may talk about the new blog they are writing, which already makes him/her some money. Others may talk about how they got out of a toxic relationship. In conclusion, it doesn’t matter what kind of person are you talking to, learn as much as you can from other people’s experiences and become a better person without having to go what they have gone through. It may save you a lot of pain in the future, and who wants to suffer where it could be avoided?

Learn to work in a team

student associations team work

In an association, you will have to spend time with other people on projects. Therefore, you will upgrade your teamwork. You will learn how to delegate people to do a certain task, how to communicate effectively, and to be a good player overall. A good member of an association is one that can do a lot of stuff, so go there and become an essential piece of the puzzle! But if you don’t put in the work, you will not achieve anything. If you have a problem getting out of your comfort zone check our article on “How to build discipline“.

student associations funny moments

In the end, it is your choice if you want to become part of a university association. The truth is you don’t need one to succeed in life. And if you are a sociable person and a hard worker, who goes to volunteer from time to time, you will get the same benefits. But you will miss the opportunity to meet new incredible people and take part in projects that may brighten your day or even your whole college career as a student.

Easy ways to plan your days!

Easy ways to plan your days!

Planning your day is not that difficult, and to be honest, is one of the best tricks to be more productive! Therefore, if you want to maximize your productivity, be more organized, or just want not to waste your time, here are some easy ways to plan your days:

[Disclaimer: Some of the links in this post may include affiliate links. This means that I get a commission if you purchase the product through my link at no extra cost to you.]

Make a to-do list before going to bed!

To-do list are easy way to plan your day!

Write down the main tasks!

Before falling asleep, just take 5 minutes to think about what you need to accomplish the day before. As a result, you will end up with some task, that you just can’t ignore. Writing it down would give you the feeling of urgency: You don’t write things down, so it means this is important. This habit will help you solve a lot of problems.

Prioritize the task!

Just writing them is not enough. Now you will have to go to the next step. Prioritize the projects you need to do tomorrow! You know that going to the gym is more important than doing the laundry. Therefore you will prioritize going to the gym. Doing this will make everything clearer. As a result, you will know what is most important for you to do the following day.

Bonus tip!

Always do at least 3 projects you write down. Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t do them all, we are humans, and we sometimes overestimate what we can do. But do at least the 3 most important projects on your list! It will help you a lot!

Create a routine!

create a routine is a easy way to plan your day!

I know is sounds weird. You can’t create a routine if your daily tasks are changing every day! And you’re right. But I know for a fact that you’ve heard about the 20/80 rule. It says that 80% of the results depend on only 20% of the actions you do. That means, 80% of your total tasks are consist of a few things that you do every day. Going the kids to school, finishing some projects at work, going to the gym, read, call your grandmother.

This is another easy way to plan your day! Creating a routine sure helps with your day to day life, and accomplishing more than before, in the same amount of time. Creating a routine is not that hard. We already have some articles on morning routines, and how to create them so it suits you, and your daily schedule!

Have a daily planner!

daily planner is a easy way to plan you days!

A daily planner is more than a to-do list. You write the tasks, you prioritize them, you write notes about each one individually, and over that, you plan the time when you will do them! It is really helpful, but it can be hard to do. You have to structure it, and it may be frustrating… But it doesn’t have to be! We can give you our self-made Daily Planner for FREE if you subscribe to our newsletter. By doing that, you will get access to even more free tools we use in our day-to-day life!

With a daily planner, you can maximize your productivity, and make sure you don’t lose time on projects which don’t benefit you that much. It is the perfect tool to plan your days with!

So to wrap this up, these are the 3 easy ways to plan your days: Make a to-do list, create a routine and make a daily planner. For maximum productivity, you can combine two or maybe all of them! I would recommend making a routine and having a daily planner. But the best is to see for yourself.

Here are some books that will help you go more in-depth of this subject:

10 Hacks to become happier

10 Hacks to become happier

Everybody wants to be happier, to feel better about themselves, to have an optimistic yet realistic outlook on life. It helps you a lot… With your sanity, well being and with your relationships. Happy people look cooler, seem to have more friends, and they don’t appear stressed out. And what better way to start changing your lifestyle than with these simple hacks to become happier?

Let’s not just focus on how people look like… Not so long ago, I was one of those “happy” people. I would look happy, made jokes, hang out a lot with my friends… Yet I felt the loneliest I have ever felt in my entire life!

I was in a roller coaster… but with no ups, just downs. I was alone, I was failing at school, I was far from home, and I had friends I didn’t even like that much. Until one day, when I said: “No more!”. My miserable state of mind had to end, and I was determined to do what I needed to do! Take responsibility, and act on the problem!

So what was the problem? Better said, what were the problems… Well, I took no responsibility for my actions had no self-control, I was undisciplined, and I would waste huge amounts of times and I hated myself for it! So, let’s talk about these problems and many more, and how you can tackle each one of them.

The thing is, everybody hates that man who always finds excuses for their mistakes… every time he fails, has something that bothered him, or maybe someone that intervened, the sun was too bright, the wind too windy, the papers were cheap, ANYTHING. And it sucks if you are that guy because no one really likes you. But the opinion of people shouldn’t be something to bother you!
Being irresponsible is bad for your own interests, and that is why you should change it! If you’re not responsible for your actions, then you will change nothing about you.

The rest of this article will be useless unless you try to do something about it and take responsibility for that! If this is too much for you, then just start small. Your improvement is a process that will take all your life. Don’t rush things… Slow progress is infinitely bigger than NO progress.

If you want to take it easy at first, do it! Even I recommend it. start by taking responsibility for one thing at a time. You can start at your desk. Keeping your desk clean and tidy. You should make that your responsibility, and you can move to other simple things from your life like making your bed in the morning, meditate, try to progress in your professional or academical career. Just choose one thing that you see fit and start taking responsibility!

[Disclaimer: Some of the links in this post may include affiliate links. This means that I get a commission if you purchase the product through my link at no extra cost to you.]

Take responsibility.

Become disciplined!

This happens to all of us, and I know that you heard it thousands of times: motivation is not enough, you have to be disciplined! And it couldn’t be more true.

Motivation comes based on the chemicals in your brain. Discipline is a habit; that means, once gained is yours in the long run. Discipline is what scientists call a Keystone Habit. That means a habit that once acquired will help you build other habits.

Being disciplined would benefit in all aspects of your life! You will build all the habits you struggled with in the past, to respect any diet plan, to do all the things you were too afraid to do before! This is the power of discipline and is a habit, so is hard to maintain it, but once you get the hang of it, is even harder to forget.

If you are interested in other ways to become disciplined check out our article: How to build discipline!

Self-control!

Let me picture a scenario for you. You want to lose weight, it’s 23:00, everybody in your house is asleep, you have some leftovers from a cake in the fridge, and you can’t help it, but have a late snack. You take a bite, then another bite, then “one last bite” and before you know it, you ate the whole cake. Now you hate yourself for how weak you are.

Now it may not sound familiar, but we all struggle with addiction… Food, smoking, drinking, it doesn’t really matter… ones are worse than others, but they are all bad, and you hate yourself because you have them. And we will change that!

I thought curing an addiction must be one of the hardest things a man can do in his life. And it is hard, but it can be done, with stepladders. Stepladders are goals that you set for yourself to reach, with the purpose of achieving a bigger goal.

Let’s say you want to get rid of your addiction to sweets, and at the moment you eat daily 2 batons of chocolate. Well, your first stepladder would be to get down the number to 1.5 batons of chocolate per day, you can try it for a few days, one week, one month, it’s up to you, but I would recommend one week. After that, you will decrease it to one baton per day for the following week, and after that to 0.5 baton, you get the idea.

At some point, you will eat sweets every other day, after that every other 2 days. Eventually, you will not need the sweets anymore. The same goes for every addiction. Intentionally decrease the portion that you allow yourself to indulge, and eventually you will not feel a need to do it anymore!

Find a purpose!

I know, I know… some bullsh*t advice, but I said to find some purpose, not THE purpose. What do I mean by that? You can combine the one from the above with this one!

Create some goals for yourself, crush them, and go bigger to crush it even harder! Make to-do lists, and check all of it by the end of the day, trust me, the feeling you get after you crush a goal; it’s just amazing! A to-do list and this setting goal process will help with your productivity too, which means you will do more stuff, you will be responsible, and build your discipline at the same time!

Prioritize your time!

You have only 24 hours in a day. Let’s say you sleep 8 hours. That leaves you with only 16 hours! In those 16 hours you need to do what you need to do to make yourself and people around you happy and healthy, build relationships, set goals and reach them, build healthy habits and succeed in your career!

I know it sounds dramatic, but you can’t let distractions in your way. And think more value of your time. You can watch some shows on Netflix or read a book, you can sleep at noon, or go to the gym; It’s a matter of responsibility and discipline. And your time is prioritized better when you have listed, so you see that everything is interconnected. One habit builds the other, so that’s a plus too.

Say “No!

How many times did you cancel some plans with yourself because someone asked you for a favor and you were too afraid to refuse? How many hours have you spent doing stuff you didn’t want to do because you just couldn’t say no? And how many times were you happy after you said yes when you should’ve said no?

From my experience, the answer is 0. I honestly always hated this trait of mine… being the nice guy, helping everyone, being unable to refuse. I felt terrible every time I couldn’t stand my ground. Don’t get me wrong here, you have to help people, and is a noble thing to help others, and can benefit you, a lot.

But sometimes, you just have to refuse people. After all, you are not the only expert in the world, you’re not the only guy who can lift a couch, and you are not the only girl who can help your friend shop for a dress.

If you don’t have time, you had already something else programmed, or just don’t feel like it, just say it! You will not be hated, you will not be a bad person, and no one will take it to the hearth. We are all human, and we can’t expect everyone to be always at our disposal.

Be honest about it, and don’t create some lame excuse, because then, you are a liar… Just say the truth, and be firm about it… This tip really helped me a lot, and it will help you too.

Help others!

Remember what I said above? Helping others can really change their day and yours. You ever helped someone and had that great feeling in your stomach? The butterflies! The thing is, you don’t get used to it! You want more, and you will help more people, and you will feel incredible about it!

Zig Ziglar said, “You will get all you want in life if you help enough people get what they want!”. And I can say from experience that not all people you help will turn the favor, but those who do can really save your day!

Live in the present!

Overthinking is one of the main causes of unhappiness! You make all these bad scenarios in your head, you practically live it in your head, but the feelings are not just up there!

You can feel the anxiety creeping in, or maybe you just go berserk over something that happened two hours ago or stay frustrated because now you thought of a better comeback in that argument you had with your sister 12 years ago… It’s just not healthy and surely it is not beneficial to you! But you can root yourself in the present!

Be aware, look around! What do you need to do in this very moment to add value to your life? File that project, play with your son, kiss your spouse, walk the dog, do what you got to do to add value in your life!

Meditate!

Meditation is the best way to train yourself to become mindful and rooted in the present! We already covered this topic in our article Start Meditating! 10 Minutes in the morning and 10 minutes before bed, can do wonders for your well being! The effects of mediation are happiness, awareness, and better control of your focus and your thoughts which lead us to the last tip!

Control your mind!

Everything and I mean everything, that you do, gets a command from your brain. But sometimes you can command it to do something, and sometimes it does things he could see fit, on autopilot.

You need the autopilot to let’s say when you wash your teeth or when you chew the food. Normal activities that don’t require your attention! Overthinking is a habit that your brain does it in some situations, you can control that, and you can stop it!

The way you react to a certain situation, you are in control of that too! You are responsible for how you react in those specific situations, you must discipline yourself to take the wheel, and meditation can help you a lot, being present help you a lot, and controlling yourself is just another part of your journey!

As you may have noticed, all these tips are connected, and activate each other! So start with only one and build from there! I started with meditation and being more present. From that point, I controlled my mind and started to build habits (my goals) and so I became disciplined and took responsibility for my life. And as a result, now I feel so much happier!

I want you to understand the fact that everything that affects you, is controllable! You can take the wheel any minute and be the person you want to be. Of course, it is going to be tough, of course, it will take time, but as I already said, this process will last all your life! So don’t rush it, but definitely do something about it!

Here are some books that helped me through my journey, and hope will help you too:
